Getting Around the Gateway City is very convenient for those visiting.  St. Louis has seven major interstates, taxis, metro/city bus network, and an award winning rail system connecting the city and suburbs.   The gay communities of  the city are easy to navigate by auto, rail, or bus.


METROLINK RAIL/SUBWAY (known simply as the METRO), is the metropolitan rail system, connecting most of the city's major attractions, shopping and nightlife as well as Downtown, Lambert International Airport.  The system is clean, safe and fast!  Fares are 1.25 in one direction or 1.35 for a transfer onto street level buses.  Tickets are available at all METRO Stations through Ticket Vending Machines.  METRO has three stations connecting the gay communities of the Central West End, Forest Park and South Grand.  The Forest Park station is located across from the Missouri History Museum/Jefferson Memorial at the corner of Forest Park Parkway and DeBaliviere Avenue.  The Central West End station is located on the south side of the CWE on Euclid Avenue near the Barnes/Jewish Hospital complex.  The South Grand district is accessible by train and bus connection at the Grand station located below Grand Avenue in Midtown St. Louis.  Transfer to the Southbound Grand Avenue bus for a short ride to the South Grand district near Tower Grove Park.  METRO will also connect you to Lambert St. Louis  International Airport and Downtown St. Louis.  Travel on Metrolink is also free in the Downtown subway from Laclede's Landing station to Union Station on weekdays from 11:30am - 1:30pm.

The Forest Park Shuttle Bug will also link you to the many attractions located in Forest Park.  This shuttle is accessible throughout the Central West End and Forest Park and at the Central West End  and Forest Park stations of Metrolink.

DRIVING IN St. Louis can be a challenge - especially during morning and afternoon rush-hours.  The city ranks in the top 10 worst traffic cities in the nation, so relax and breath deeply.  The metroplex is connected by seven major interstates.  The central corridor of the city (serving the Central West End/Grand South Grand/Soulard districts) is accessible by Interstates 44 and 64/40 West/East.  Avoiding I-64/Hwy. 40 at anytime is smart (but not always possible) - this section of the highway is OVER used and you can usually expect delays at all times (especially during rush-hours).  This is the main city Central Corridor belt.  I-44 is a better choice many times and runs parallel one mile south to/of I-64/40.

WALKING through most neighborhoods of the gay districts is relatively safe, as far as cities go.  Walking in all of the districts is almost the only way to enjoy the many cosmopolitan shops, boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, bookstores, pubs, bars, and nightclubs.  Forest Park is is safe to explore throughout daylight hours, however after dark is not.  Please always be alert and awake when walking through any large city - Safety is a priority for all of us!
