This neighborhood lies just west of midtown St. Louis and surrounds the eastern and northern portions of Forest Park.  Major streets include N. Kingshighway, Lindell Boulevard, and Euclid Avenue.  The Central West End is known as St. Louis' gay community  "hub" or "village" neighborhood.  Most gay St. Louisans call this neighborhood "home".  This historic and modern cosmopolitan neighborhood is made up of primary mid-rise and high-rise apartments, condominiums and homes.  Restaurants, outdoors cafes', coffee houses, specialty shops, art galleries, hotels, bookstores and newsstand's line the quaint tree-lined streets.  The CWE is known for its slick city atmosphere and gay friendly attitude.  Here one can be him/herself and not have the fear of being ridiculed or stared at  by outsiders.  It is a care-free neighborhood where just about "anything goes".  In walking distance is Forest Park, home to the 1904 Worlds Fair and Olympic Park.  Bigger than N.Y.C. Central Park, Forest Park has more free attractions than any other city in America.  Here you can visit the St. Louis Zoo, Jewel Box gardens, Korean Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, History Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Science Center and planetarium, Muny Opera Theatre, Worlds fair sites or take a guided gondola boat ride through the canals.  There is no other urban  park in America like Forest Park!
How to get there:  Take I-44 or I-64/40 to the North Kingshighway exit, follow approx. 2 miles to a right turn onto Lindell Boulevard, follow one block to right or left turn on Euclid Avenue.  You are now in the heart of the CWE!  By Rail; The CWE is connected by two Metrolink Rail stations - the Central West End Station and Forest Park Stations.  See City Guide Pages/transportation.

The South Grand neighborhood district is located just 1.5 miles south of I-44 on Grand Avenue.  This neighborhood has hosted PRIDEFEST for the past two years and has become St. Louis' second largest gay district.  Many gay businesses line the cozy streets along Grand and Tower Grove Park.  The street is lively with many restaurants and shops.  The further south you go in this neighborhood will begin St. Louis' new Asian (Chinatown) community - where some of the best ethnic restaurants line the streets.  St. Louis' Gay Community presence is strong in this neighborhood - with gay flags flying with pride throughout.  Definitely a great neighborhood to explore.

Soulard is one of St. Louis' oldest neighborhoods hugging the mighty Mississippi River just south of Downtown St. Louis.  Soulard is known as St. Louis' mature gay community district.  Many gay men have settled and made this neighborhood their home.  Soulard is known for its' fine St. Louis Jazz and Blues clubs roaring with live music almost 24 hours a day.  Many Bed and Breakfast Inns are also located throughout this historic neighborhood.  The neighborhood is also home to St. Louis' oldest gay bar - Clementines - known for its Levi and Leather crowd.  While in Soulard, don't forget to take in the famous outdoor Soulard market!  Here browse the venders and purchase gifts, fresh fruits and vegetables and collectibles - a highlight of the Soulard neighborhood!  Each year St. Louis celebrates with the second largest Mardi Gras in the USA right here in Soulard!
